Nothing here is a benchmark: every figure is worked from the numbers you enter about your own year.
Client testimonial videos are the most valuable proof a service business can hold and the hardest to collect, because the traditional route: a crew, a day, a location: costs more than most small businesses will spend on marketing in a quarter. The alternative is asking the client to record ninety seconds on their own phone against three questions you send. This page is what each route gets you and what it costs. On the worked example 18% of the customers who answer will do it on video: 3 films a year, from 42 asks.

Ask the ones who already said something good
A video ask lands when it follows a written testimonial: the client has already said the thing, and you are asking them to say it again to a camera. Cold video asks are where the refusals come from.
Send three questions, not a script
What was the problem, what did we do, what changed. A script makes a client sound like an actor; three questions makes them sound like themselves, which is the entire point of the format.
Take what you get and cut it short
Ninety seconds beats four minutes and a phone beats nothing. On the worked example three videos a year is what a 42-ask year produces, and three real ones outperform a polished film nobody has time to watch.

What people ask about the Client testimonial videos
Will a client really record themselves?
About one in five of the ones who agree to a testimonial at all, on the worked example. That is the figure to plan against rather than hoping for a majority.
Is phone footage good enough?
For a testimonial, yes: the credibility comes from the person and what they say. For a brand film it is not, and that is a different purchase.
Do I need their permission in writing?
Keep it in writing, yes, and keep it with the video. The FTC's Endorsement Guides govern how an endorsement may be used, and the record is what makes that easy.
